TOWCESTER EVENING W I
NEWSLETTER
NOVEMBER 2009
Please welcome this evening’s speaker, Paul Howard.
Last month we held our own elections and all went well, so I have been told. Kirsten Croft was elected to the committee and we would like to give her a BIG welcome. The Harvest
Supper was a great success: thanks to Joan Hemmings for organising this and a letter of
thanks has been sent to Riverside
staff for the wonderful spread.
Helma Boot and Maureen Thorne have kindly offered to decorate the WI tree for the Methodist Church
Christmas Tree Festival. Thanks to you both.
NB. If any member incurs costs when taking part
in an event for TEWI, such as the above, they should make a claim to our treasurer for reimbursement. This includes refreshments
each month e.g. cakes/biscuits.
ANNUAL COUNCIL MEETING
Four members went along to the ACM (myself included as the delegate) and it was a very
enjoyable evening; not all business as some might think. There were some very interesting speakers and I would encourage you
all to take the opportunity to go along next year. The guest speaker was Sheila Dibnah, a very amusing lady telling us tales
about her husband, Fred. We also had a presentation from Mrs Jenny Haynes (Wootton
WI) on “Archives of the WI”, which I found really
interesting.
A new Federation Challenge will be starting soon; full details will be in the next County
newsletter but just to give you some idea that we shall be on the lookout for a few budding actors out there to take part!
This year’s Challenge made £10,520.66 and the winner of under 25 members
was Chipping Warden & Edgecote WI and the over 25 members, Hunsbury Hill
WI. Carolyn Libby
stepped down as Chairman of the Federation. We are pleased to be able to inform you that this post has now been taken up by
Linda Beck.

Christmas Cake Competition
Can you remember Sue Hamilton and Kirsten Croft judging a Pork Pie competition at The
George, Tiffield? This year the pub is organising a Christmas Cake Competition
and it’s on Wednesday 16th December. This should be a fun evening
for all so if you wish go along and join in or even enter that would be great. I’m sure many of you are really good
at making Christmas Cakes. Sue will probably have more details if you wish to speak to her.
Anyone for Croquet?
Stony Stratford has a Croquet
Club and run something which is called Golf Croquet, a sort of mini game. This suits all regardless of age or fitness. You
are shown how to play and they supply the equipment. It’s very sociable,
lots of fun, and could be something different to do on a morning or afternoon at only £4 for 2/3 hours. They play through
the autumn and winter, weather permitting, and also provide refreshments. Could
be worth a look………
Petra Giffen or Pat Trede may be able to give you more information.
